Welcome to Equality and Diversity Month at Askham!

This is our fourth themed month, Equality and Diversity. Here at Askham we put equality and diversity at the heart of our village community. Our residents and staff must know that they are protected against any type of discrimination because of the protected characteristics we all have. These protected characteristics are: age, disability, gender reassignment, race, pregnancy or maternity, religion or belief, sexual orientation, disability, and marriage or civil partnership.

Askham Village Community promotes diversity and encourages everyone from our community to express freely their beliefs. Furthermore, we work together everyday to ensure that an individual’s differences are treated equally and fairly.  Askham supports and does its best to ensure that each member of our staff is trained to understand four key concepts for our theme: equalitydiversityinclusion, and discrimination

Equality is about treating people according to their own needs, choices and preferences.

Diversity can be described as ‘difference’.

Inclusion is being included within a group or in society as a whole.

Discrimination means labelling, stereotyping and prejudice.

Our posters are designed to emphasise key principles when discussing about Equality and Diversity.

Equality and Diversity Month is not intended to be a training programme. Askham staff will receive training on site and these posters are to be considered just guidelines for good practice. Askham Village Community is not responsible for any misunderstandings caused by this event. For information regarding Care training, please visit www.avctraining.net.
