On Wednesday 21st May, we held one of the most joyful events of the year here at Askham – our Culture Day celebration. What we expected to be a small gathering quickly grew into a room full of residents, families, staff and visitors, all coming together to celebrate our wonderfully diverse community.
Held in our Function Room, the event was bursting with colour, music and connection, a true reflection of the spirit we share at Askham every day.
Dance, henna, and shared traditions
The space was transformed with vibrant costumes, cultural decorations, and beautiful henna designs that brought the day to life. Our team and residents prepared and shared a variety of traditional dishes, each with its own story and flavour.
From the first song to the final round of applause, the energy in the room was nothing short of magical. There was dancing, laughter, and moments of connection that reminded us all why celebrating our differences brings us even closer together.

A standout moment with our Askham Grove residents
One of the most touching parts of the day was a residents’ dance performance, featuring our Askham Grove residents alongside Events Coordinator Kelly Hayes. The performance was full of emotion and effort and met with huge applause from everyone present.
“We didn’t expect such a big turnout this year – it was wonderful! The energy in the room was incredible. Seeing the Grove residents put their hearts into the dance and being up there with them was truly special. It’s a memory I’ll hold onto for a long time,” shared Kelly Hayes.

Adding a fun surprise to the day, our Registered Manager Manu Magar also joined in with a dance of her own, bringing even more joy and laughter to the room.
“Culture Day reminded us how much richness and connection there is in sharing where we come from,” Manu said. “It was a privilege to be part of the celebrations – not just as a manager, but as someone proud to celebrate alongside our residents and colleagues.”

A big thank you to our Activities Team
This beautiful event would not have been possible without the dedication, creativity and care of our Activities Team, who brought it all to life. From organising the performances and decorations to encouraging participation across the site, their efforts made the day one to remember.
We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who took part, shared their culture, or simply came along to enjoy the day with us.
