Askham Village Community is supporting The Care Workers’ Charity in its bid to provide financial stability to care employees across the UK who have been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

As part of the new partnership, the family-run specialist care and rehabilitation community, near Doddington, Cambridgeshire, has become a member of the highly regarded charity and has made a donation of £3,000 – which will go directly towards supporting those affected by the pandemic and in need of financial support.

Askham’s Supporters Club Membership will see it join a group of over 65 care providers and suppliers that have pledged their support to building a more resilient care sector, by empowering care employees with financial stability; enabling them to provide the highest quality of care.

Founded in 2009 to help prevent care workers from falling into financial hardship, The Care Workers’ Charity has spent the last decade supporting individuals and families working in social care with ‘Crisis Grants’. Life-changing for the recipients, the grants provide a vital safety net for care workers as well as their families.

The platform of the charity has increased exponentially since the onset of COVID-19, with applications to its existing ‘Crisis Grant’ stream, as well as its new ‘COVID-19 Emergency Grant’, having risen by 1,000 per cent. Over £2million has been raised for its COVID-19 Emergency Grant since March 2020, with £1.7million being paid out to over 2,000 applicants.

The charity is currently working hard to introduce new mental health grants and support programmes to help combat the trauma faced by many care workers on the frontline of the pandemic.

A spokesperson for The Care Workers’ Charity, said: “This partnership represents a collective commitment to building a stronger, more resilient sector; a sector that values and supports its employees so that they can deliver the highest levels of care. We’re thrilled to have the support of Askham Village Community to continue our mission, and to ensure no care worker has to cope alone. We look forward to collaborating with the team at Askham and are grateful that they have chosen our charity to support.”

Aliyyah-Begum Nasser, Director at Askham, said: “We’re delighted to announce our partnership with The Care Workers’ Charity. Looking after the mental health of our employees is paramount and has been a core focus at Askham throughout the pandemic – in fact, it was outlined as a strategic goal for 2020 before the crisis. We’ve witnessed first-hand the toll the virus has had on frontline workers in social care and firmly believe those who valiantly put themselves before others to protect residents shouldn’t be left by the wayside if they fall on financial hardship.”

She continued: “We look forward to a fruitful relationship with The Care Workers’ Charity and have a host of events and activities in the pipeline for next year to help promote the charity, and amplify its message that every care worker should be protected to ensure they can protect others.”
