At Askham, we believe in taking time to appreciate the people behind the care — and our Family Fun Day on Saturday, 5th July was just that: a heartfelt celebration of our team members and the families who support them.
The weather may not have been the sunniest, but the smiles more than made up for it. From cheeky cake-smudged faces to laughter echoing around the grounds, the day brought everyone together for an afternoon of fun, games and connection. Whether it was cheering from the sidelines or racing towards the finish line, the event was all about joy and togetherness.
A day to remember
The afternoon began with the set-up of our bouncy castle, paddling pool, ball pit and slide — with a few early arrivals sneaking a bounce before the real fun began!
Ella, one of our Activities Coordinators, shared: “There’s nothing better than seeing everyone having fun and just enjoying themselves. This day wasn’t about work — it was about us as people, families, and a team. The laughter said it all.”
Once things officially kicked off at midday, the Askham Olympics took centre stage. From the egg and spoon race to a lively tug of war and the ever-entertaining three-legged race, there was something for everyone.
One of the highlights of the afternoon was our Cake Face challenge — or Pie the Leads. For a small donation, team members (and their children!) could put a cream pie in the face of a lead of their choice — all to raise funds for activities in our homes. By the end, quite a few team members were wearing cake, much to the children’s delight!
Simple pleasures and sweet moments
From relay races to dress-up challenges and a chance to cool off or simply chat, the event offered something for everyone. It was a true celebration of the Askham spirit — supportive, warm, and full of life.
Kelly, who co-organised the event, added: “We wanted to say thank you to everyone who gives so much day in and day out. Seeing their kids race around, laughing together — it means the world to us. This is what Askham is all about.”
Wellbeing in focus
The Family Fun Day wasn’t just about entertainment — it was a reflection of Askham’s ongoing commitment to staff wellbeing. It also marked a moment of appreciation for the exceptional outcomes following our recent PAMMS and ICB assessments, which saw all four of our locations receive fantastic feedback.
Mavrick Leveille, Associate Director, reflected on the day: “Our staff show such incredible dedication and this was a chance to offer something back. It was lovely to see so many families enjoying the day together — a small gesture that means a great deal. I’m incredibly proud of the team and grateful for moments like these.”
Looking ahead
This was a day full of laughter, cake, and meaningful connections — and we’re already looking forward to the next opportunity to celebrate with our team and their families.
And we don’t have long to wait! Our Summer Fayre is just around the corner — taking place on Saturday 2nd August, from 11am to 4pm.
